We pride ourselves as being a walking community where children walk to school, but is Lakewood a safe place to walk? I walk in Lakewood everyday and while we have always dealt with speeding drivers, it seems to be getting worse. I would like to see more ticket issuing traffic cameras. Europe has them everywhere. They use less police resources and eliminate any chance of violence during a traffic stop. We also need cameras and officers to ticket people who run red lights. And is it possible to delay the walk/don't walk sign from changing to walk for a few seconds? I've seen children focusing on the walk light and not checking for traffic when they step off the curb. Can anything be done to lower the speed limits in Lakewood; particularly on Franklin? When my now adult son was a student at Franklin, we PTA members talked to the city about lowering it to 25 but were told that was impossible. Is it? While speed and traffic law enforcement is most important to me, I would like to see more speed humps/bumps in Lakewood. We visited family in Albuquerque this spring and they are everywhere on side streets. Let's make Lakewood a true walking community. Thank you. Mary Ryan 2076 Reveley Ave.
