RESOLUTION 2024-42 - A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it receives the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council to support the Complete Streets Initiative and to address the livability and safety needs of Lakewood by building upon efforts to promote an equitable multimodal transportation system. (1st read and referred to PC & PS 6/17/24; 2nd reading 7/1/24)
I am writing in support of Resolution 2024-42 and the Complete Streets Initiative. I am a resident of Lakewood and a longtime cyclist. I bicycle to preschool and elementary school with my 3 and 5 yr olds, and appreciate the existing effort but look forward to an increased emphasis on and safety for all forms of transport.
I have spoken with many Lakewood residents who have decided to move here because of the ability to walk and bike around town. Improving this network and making it more safe will add to Lakewood’s accessibility for those unable to drive as well as for children just learning how to navigate traffic. Expanding bike lanes and pedestrian walkways, as well as improving challenging intersections will align Lakewood with communities across the US who are working toward a healthier, more active future.
I am writing to express my strong support for Resolution 2024-42 and the Complete Streets Initiative. As a resident of Lakewood, I frequently walk and bike around our city, often with my toddler in tow. This initiative aligns perfectly with our community's needs for improved safety and accessibility.
Creating a multimodal transportation system not only enhances livability but also promotes a healthier lifestyle for families like mine. Expanding bike lanes and pedestrian pathways will make our streets safer for all, fostering an environment where families can enjoy our neighborhoods with peace of mind.
I urge you to vote in favor of this resolution, as it reflects a commitment to a vibrant, inclusive Lakewood. Thank you for considering my perspective.
