Communication from Councilmember Hamilton Steiner, Council President Kepple and Vice President Baker regarding City of Lakewood Flock Contract. (referred to PS 09/08/26)
I oppose Lakewood's Flock camera contract. These cameras do not keep us safe, in fact, many neighbors I have spoken to agree that we feel less safe with Flock around, considering how frequently their data gets shared with outside agencies, and abused. The People do not want it. Thank you for your consideration on this matter.
Hello,
I am a lifelong and proud Lakewoodite, born and raised here, even born at Lakewood hospital. I would like to express my concern with the current contract the city of Lakewood has with FLOCK and that it reconsiders renewing with this company.
FLOCK cannot be trusted as a private company , which has frequently been used by ICE, a government agency that has consistently violated the constitutional rights of our immigrant community and terrorized our immigrant communities. Even with proposed inaccess to data, How do we know they are not accessing this data if no state or federal oversight? In addition, FLOCK is NOT a government agency, it is a private corporation that is profiting of the data collection with little to no State or federal oversight of how its data is used or collected. Concerns of the constitutionally of FLOCK have been issued by the ACLU for violations of the 4th amendment against unlawful search and seizure, among other issues .
Lakewood can continue its proud history of being a progressive community for all by ending its contract with FLOCK.
I have actually always felt safe in Lakewood, and I don’t see how a surveillance state makes us safer.
thank you for your time, and attention to this matter.
