28. RESOLUTION 2021-56 - A RESOLUTION to oppose and condemn attacks on abortion access from federal, state, and local entities and to assure residents that Lakewood City Council will fight to preserve and protect abortion rights within the City of Lakewood, within the limits of the law.
During this time of attacks on women’s reproductive rights, it is important that our community’s voice is heard. Women’s right to determine whether or not to continue a pregnancy is solely their decision. I support this resolution and thank the members of council who proposed it.
As a former resident of Lakewood, who still frequently works and socializes within city limits, I am ecstatic to hear about this resolution's proposal. Lakewood residents, just like all Ohioans, deserve accessible abortion care without shame, stigma, judgement, or obstacles. I'm glad to know Lakewood's elected officials feel the same, and that they understand this statement of condemnation is important to Lakewood's community members feeling respected and supported in making decisions that best fit their families, futures, and overall lives.
A person's right to choose if and when to bear children is critical to their health, well-being, and personal & economic freedom. I appreciate and felly support Lakewood City Council's public commitment to oppose measures that seek to take away this most important human right.
I stongly support this resolution to oppose and condemn attacks on abortion access. Access to abortion is access to health care. I am proud to be a member of a community in which a person has the right to determine thier own future and make the difficult decisions necessary to best serve future generations. Successful family planning is decided, not dictated.
I wholeheartedly agree with this resolution. Abortion is part of healthcare. I am glad the city council is going to fight to keep access to abortion in Lakewood.
I am in full support of this resolution to protect abortion rights. It is a powerful step the city can take in the midst of a widespread attack on abortion rights. Lakewood should stand up for our right to access healthcare and send the message to all residents that we deserve to make safe decisions over our bodies.
I am in full support of this resolution. As someone who has had an abortion - two, in fact - I can confidently say that I'm unsure where I would be if I hadn't been able to have access to abortion services. Everyone who chooses to have an abortion deserves to be able to in a safe and easily accessible manner. Abortion is healthcare. Abortion is a human right.
I strongly support this resolution and hope that my good neighbors in Lakewood will do the same. Every woman should have the right to make a choice about their own bodies as to avoid potentially harmful situations for themselves and for the health/welfare of their children. Abortion should not be a political issue and any attempts to criminalize it is an alienation of a woman’s rights.
I support this resolution especially in light of recent attempts to criminalize abortion providers, patients and physicians. People don't turn to politicians for medical advice; politicians should not determine a woman's personal medical decisions about pregnancy. Lakewood should continue to support those who cherish the freedom to decide their future and those who want to control their own bodies.
As a resident and employee of Lakewood, one thing I’ve always appreciated is the cities progressive and forward thinking attitude. To take away the right to this form of basic healthcare would be against everything this city stands for. For the safety and livelihood of its citizens, do the right thing and leave this choice to each person
Abortion is a human right, clear and simple. Keeping abortion safe and legal is critical for the health and safety for a community to stay sustained. Everyone deserves to govern their own bodies and not have to resort to life threatening procedures.
A safe community needs safe access to all levels of family planning. Keep Lakewood thinking forward and keep regressive anti-choice reproductive healthcare in the past.
Access to safe abortion is a critical. It is incredibly necessary and basic healthcare, and without it we are derailing the safety and livelihood of countless people. Communities that thrive support the people’s right to govern their own bodies and make their own decisions for their personal health.
As adults we try to stay consistent in our values and beliefs. If you advocate for "My body, my choice" in regards to abortion, and you also support vaccine or mask mandates, you may want to rethink your positions. As central planners, we citizens expect constitutional legislative consistency.
You want autonomy over your body to terminate a pregnancy, but you ignore that privacy to stop a strong flu by mandating dirty cloths over kids faces or for adults in city buildings. If masks worked, why are they not working?

Abortion is healthcare and pregnant people deserve the right to make their own decisions about their body - I strongly support this resolution.
A woman’s right to choose needs to be protected in order to to prevent years of suffering from an unexpected pregnancy

Keeping abortion safe and legal is a human right, and taking that away only can do harm. It is essential we protect the right to choose!
