5. ORDINANCE 20-2022 - AN ORDINANCE to take effect immediately provided it receives the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council to enact Section 135.17 Limitation on enforcement related to abortion care of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood, to protect residents of the City of Lakewood from interference by the State in their healthcare decisions. (1st read & referred to Finance 7/5/22)
I support this ordinance. Please vote to pass it. The current State of Ohio law is not sensitive to the many reasons why abortion may be an absolute imperative for a family. For an individual's choice to be mandated by the government is oppression at its worst.
The City Council of Lakewood’s job is to promote the health and welfare of all of its citizens. The Council can and should do so by following the laws of the State of Ohio that are protecting the innocent and vulnerable, from the moment life begins, to when it naturally ends.
Furthermore, it is the job of the Council to follow the laws of the State of Ohio, not to choose which laws it will or will not enforce.
Follow the laws; protect the most vulnerable; do not put forth your own agenda.
