8. ORDINANCE 10-2023 - AN ORDINANCE to take effect January 1, 2024 to establish new Chapter 781, Automobile Business Operations, of the Lakewood Codified Ordinances to establish regulations for automobile related businesses within the City of Lakewood. (pg. 95)

I live in Lakewood and I support the ordinance to regulate automotive businesses. The auto shop in my neighborhood takes up street parking with customer cars and shop vans for days and weeks. This is because parking is free at night, which allows them to keep the same spot for a long time. This is a problem for our safety, convenience, and livelihood. I have called the city parking enforcement, but they say nothing can be done since the auto shop pays for the spaces during the day. This is unfair and unjust. The auto shop is exploiting the public parking system and using a loophole in the current regulations. We need the ordinance that would make automotive businesses provide off-street parking and limit their use of public parking. This would improve our parking system and our community. Please pass this ordinance and stop the auto shop’s abuse. Thank you.

I fully and enthusiastically support this ordinance. There are businesses that know how to business and it isn't fair to other business that do business properly and are mindful of their role as a business in the community and are responsible business owners, while others take up limited parking on streets and use their business as a salvage and storage yard.

Why is it that residents get ticketed or towed for not moving their cars but a car repair shop can leave cars on the road for multiple days at a time taking limited parking away from residents, visitors and customers for other businesses. Other businesses are not allowed to store items on the street why do repair shops get to it? Thanks to the mayor and Mr. Bullock for trying to fix that certain businesses are taking advantage. I support the ordinance.

As a resident that lives near Madison Ave and has to contend with several repair shops that monopolize street parking and are otherwise an eyesore among vibrant commercial and residential neighborhoods, I wholeheartedly support this ordinance.
