Guten Abend! I'd like to start by applauding the administration and the council for their willingness to improve the safety of our city streets. The importance of this matter cannot be overstated. I do, however, want to highlight how time-sensitive this issue is. Just in the last few weeks, there have been multiple incidents in which pedestrians' lives were at risk due to completely preventable vehicular traffic problems. In one, a high school student was hit by the driver of a car and drug along the street on madison. In another, a pedestrian was clipped by a car that did not stop, and in another, a pedestrian was hit by a driver while he was legally in the crosswalk. After the pedestrian was rolled up onto the hood of the car, the driver still left the scene of the crash. The fact that the police are investigating and have filed charges and/or cited some of these drivers is irrelevant. The harm done to a pedestrian or cyclist when a crash with a motor vehicle happens can be irreversible. Charges after the fact will not bring back someone's ability to walk, ride, or undo the loss of life. Please expedite any and all funding, planning, and installation of quick build safety improvements around our great city. Danke Schon!!
