Dear Council President Kepple and Members of Council,

I’m writing to voice my support for the resolution declaring March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility in Lakewood. Those of us with transgender family members know the joy they bring to the world. Unfortunately, we also know the fear and sadness caused by the dangerous policies and rhetoric of our so-called leaders at the state and federal levels. Thank you for doing what you can at the local level to show support for these valued members of our community.

Lakewood has always been a community that welcomes diversity and comes together when people are in need. This is one of the reasons why I love living in Lakewood. Let’s come together now and show our love and acceptance by supporting this resolution.

As a Lakewood resident I think this is a very timely resolution. A large part of why I picked Lakewood to raise my kids is because of the community's commitment to meaningful civic engagement, acceptance, and love in all of its forms. This resolution certainly strengthens our community's resolve to that end.

Sorry if this comment is duplicated. I don't know if my first one posted.

I am the mother of a nonbinary person. Part of the reason I love lakewood is that I never felt that my child was in danger throughout their transition. The high school was incredibly supportive. They are a happy, stable adult in a healthy relationship which I don't know would have been possible had they transitioned in a less supportive place. I love the idea of making March 31 the official Trans Visibility Day!
