I've been biking on public roads for over half of my life. While I might feel relatively (emphasis on relatively) safe riding on the road a lot of other bicycle riders do not. A mixed used path is a great way to get into active transportation and cycling. The proximity to our high school will make this path a great asset to our community. It's only common sense that a dense city like Lakewood would have a path like this.
I want to thank all of our city leaders for their recent efforts to make Lakewood a desirable place to live and visit by prioritizing people and safety. Lakewood is the vibrant city that we all love because of its community. We encounter our neighbors and friends in our day to day lives because it is possible to walk and ride to our parks, restaurants, and stores. This does not happen in other cities, and we cannot take it for granted. Corporations build other places to mimic the space that we have organically by building outdoor shopping centers.
It's vital that we continue to support the projects that support our community. We need to continue to strive for safe, comfortable, beautiful places to live, work, and recreate. I appreciate your efforts and ask you to continue the good work you are doing, including projects like Bunts, Hilliard/Madison, and Complete Streets. These are the steps we need to take today to preserve the community we inherited from generations before us. Thank you.
Hello, I’m writing to express my support for the Bunts Rd multi use path. I reside on the block of Bunts between Clifton and Detroit. At the top of my block on the SE side there are several senior citizen apartment buildings and assisted living facilities. I frequently see residents trying to navigate the street in wheelchairs, or with walkers. There’s even a resident who chooses to walk in the street rather than navigate the uneven sidewalk. I think that the multi use path would really benefit those residents.
I also support the path because I feel safe biking is important for all residents. I choose to get around town on foot, Lakewoods walk ability is one reason why I chose to stay here. I am not comfortable riding a bike on my street and the multi use path would really make me feel safer cycling.
I think the majority of my neighbors support the path. There are 40 houses on this block and only 4 signs opposing the project. Some of the people I’ve come across have fallen for the mis information being shared by the opposition group on social media. We have even been subject to repeated false information being put in our mail box by this group. I’ve tried my best to share the correct info with people I’ve met and several neighbors even hosted a night with our city council woman to discuss details.
Thank you for your time and the energy spent on this project.

I'm in support in the multi use path on bunt, I'm a bike commuter who lives on the border of Lakewood and uses Bunts to get to A and B wether it's work, recreation, or errands.
Me and multiple other bike commuters I see that use bunts would greatly benefit in safety as many of us have constant close calls even though we follow the rules of the road.
This installation would help people stay safe as there is soo many inattentive drivers on there phones illegally every day and if they're not inattentive some are murderous and do not care about their fellow citizens lives.
This also helps the handicapped as the uneven terrain of the sidewalks (especially the ones that get erected out of place by tree roots makes it treacherous for those in wheelchairs, a smooth wide multi use path makes it far easier and less stressful for them
Thank you for green lighting this project and let many more come
Thank you to the Lakewood City Council and administration for their leadership in advancing the Bunts Road multi-use path project. This is a crucial step toward safer, more inclusive infrastructure, and it’s exciting to see efforts that prioritize the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. After witnessing the tragic loss of a pedestrian on my street, I believe projects like this are essential to building a future where walking and biking are safe and accessible for everyone. The multi-use path not only enhances safety but encourages more people to adopt active transportation. I also appreciate the city's swift action on recent traffic incidents and look forward to seeing more safe, family-friendly bike routes throughout Lakewood. This path represents progress for both transportation and recreation, making the city safer for all. I commend the leadership for recognizing the importance of investing in infrastructure that supports all road users while reducing noise and helping to meet our climate goals. Thank you for your continued commitment to making Lakewood a safer and more welcoming place for everyone.
The path is progress! I am a longtime homeowner on Bunts Road and I am looking forward to this multi-use pathway to make transportation and recreation easier and safer for myself, my immediate neighbors, and the city of Lakewood.
I am writing in opposition to the Bunts Rd. bike path plan. While I certainly agree that having bike lanes added to our infrastructure is desirable, there are many other places this can be implemented other than such a main artery through the city. Bunts Rd. is very busy on a normal day, and during school activities, etc., it becomes extremely congested. We have already seen what a bad idea bike lanes on busy roads is, just in the last few months on Hilliard there have been a fatal accident and two children were injured. Now the city thinks its a good idea to do the same on Bunts, which is arguably much busier, and is often driven by young drivers, traveling to and from the high school. That is a recipe for disaster. This is just the most serious argument against this idea. I feel I need to point out that it also is going to cause the aesthetics of the street to decrease significantly due to the proposed narrowing of the tree lawns, which will require all the beautiful trees to be cut down. Not to mention that this will also do significant damage to our property values. No one is going to want to buy a home on a street with such negatives.
In summation, while bike lanes are a desirable perk to living in the city of Lakewood, planning should be done more thoroughly in regards to these issues, with the city taking all of the above in to account.
Lakewood homeowner and casual bike-riding mom chiming in support of Bunts Road Project! I want to sincerely thank Lakewood City Council and the administration for their leadership in advancing this project and continuing to prioritize safe, inclusive infrastructure. I started paying more attention to traffic safety after a pedestrian was killed at the end of my street. I have a 2 year old right now and I want to be proactive in advocating for infrastructure changes that will keep her safe when she's old enough to walk/bike to a friends house on her own. Projects like this are key steps toward a future where I can feel confident she'll be safe navigating this city on foot & bike when she's older. A protected path on Bunts not only enhances safety but also encourages more people to consider active transportation. I appreciate the city’s response to recent traffic incidents on Madison/Hilliard and look forward to seeing a growing network of safe, family-friendly bike routes throughout Lakewood.
As I have commented in other places, I would like to express sincere gratitude for everyone on city council and in the administration that has worked to make Lakewood a better, safer place for all who call it home as well as those that come to Lakewood for work or leisure. Building safe, robust infrastructure for bicyclists and pedestrians enhances safety for all road users while reducing noise and helping us to meet our climate goals. As many have commented here and in previous meetings, there are concerns from some residents of Bunts road about the "increased danger caused by increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic." To that, I would ask anyone to look at the number of people that are seriously hurt or killed by bicyclists and pedestrians compared to the number of people that are seriously hurt or killed by people driving cars. The danger comes from cars. It is incumbent upon all who operate a motor vehicle to be hyper aware of their surroundings, especially when backing out of a driveway.
I would like to commend the council members that spoke to the media at the end of March on traffic safety. I would also like to commend the Mayor on getting a small but effective treatment installed quickly after two children and their father were hit by a negligent driver. I hope that there is a great deal more to come city wide, including Bunts road, the Lake-Clifton connector, and meaningful improvement on all of our major corridors.
I am writing to support the Bunts Road rehabilitation project to include the multi-use path. Recent crashes throughout the city and the Active Transportation Plan have both shown that our roads in Lakewood, as is, are not all safe for our vulnerable road users. Having a separate, dedicated path for pedestrians, people on bikes, and other multi-modal forms of transportation shows the city’s dedication to prioritizing people over cars. It will connect main routes around the city and provide equitable means of accessibility to local businesses and schools. In following through with this plan, you are doing the right thing for our residents and committing to the unique aspects of what makes Lakewood special. We are a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive community, and this should not stop with how someone travels through it. Thank you for all of your hard work towards making this a safer city for all.
I wish to comment on the proposed 10 foot wide bike path for Bunts Rd. Bunts is an extremely busy road which makes it a challenge for residents to exit and enter their driveways. Adding the path further, and unnecessarily, complicates the use of our driveways. As with all residential streets in Lakewood Bunts is a neighborhood of families. Sidewalks belong in neighborhoods, not multi use paths. The metroparks and Lakewood Park make sense for these paths. Bunts Rd does not. Neighbors walk to each other’s homes. Neighbors congregate in front yards to visit. Residents go for walks in the neighborhood. They walk their dogs. They push their children in strollers. I am requesting that members of our city council exercise caution and common sense and remove the multi use path from the Bunts Rd project and simply repair the neighborhood’s existing sidewalks.
Thank you.
I am writing in opposition to the proposed bike path being built down Bunts Road. Losing all of the beautiful tree lawn trees which were paid for by tax payer dollars in the past seems foolish. It is already difficult to pull out onto the street from Bunts driveways, and I truly fear that there will be resulting accidents and injuries if the city follows through with this plan. I also find it disheartening that residents were not given notice of this bike path until it was deeply into the planning stage. I urge the city of Lakewood to listen to its residents and scrap the Bunts bike path idea which will cause disruption at best and potential harm at worst.
