I am writing to express my gratitude and support for the city’s continued efforts to promote safety and equity for all road users. Projects like Complete Streets, the Active Transportation Plan, the Bunts Road Rehab, and others help ensure that all members of our community are given a means to travel safely throughout our city regardless of their mode of travel. By continuing to focus on our most busy streets and intersections we can make sure that there is a safe way to travel from anywhere to anywhere in Lakewood. These throughways are the connections we all take to get from place to place throughout our city, and nobody should be required to take an extended and out-of-the-way route to avoid inconveniencing some other mode of travel. Sometimes this will be uncomfortable for some residents to embrace change, but I applaud the city and council’s continued commitment to the safety of all. Thank you!
I wanted to once again thank city council and the administration for it's continued efforts on making Lakewood a safer place to walk, bike, and drive! Looking forward to the passing of the Complete Streets Ordinance as well.
Hello there, my name is Fermin. I live roughly a 15 minute bike ride south of Lakewood. I'm a bike commuter who uses Bunts to commute to Lakewood for errands, work, or social recreation. I do not own a car by choice for health and financial reasons so my primary mode of transportation is by bike.
Thank you for green lighting this project as it helps people like us who use active transportation through choice or have no choice.
A benefitial side effect of this project is it would encourage less car use to get around which in turn reduces pollution caused by exhaust fumes, tire particles which pollutes water and dirt, also lessen the road damage that's caused by the volume of multi ton automobiles passing through.
This in turn also makes it cheaper for the city to do maintenance since less damage is done.
Furthermore the installation of the multi use path would benefit public health as commuters would gain passive exercise just by going from point A to B to do whatever they need or want to do, this would improve cardiovascular health combating heart disease caused by sedantary lifestyles.
All these benefits will be amplified and grow as more and more of these green street initiatives come to fruition, so once again I thank Lakewood city council for this project and encourage council to continue to push for more future green projects like this as it helps the people, our wallets, and our Earth.
I am writing to show my support for the Bunts Rd. multi use path project as well as future multi-modal transportation projects in Lakewood. One of the things that sets Lakewood apart from many other communities in the area is the ability to travel to work, to school, to go shopping, or to any of the other necessary stops in a given day without the use of a car. I am glad to see our city government encourage this culture of walking/riding as a means of getting around.
Thank you Mayor George for your public support of maintaining seven elementary schools in Lakewood. This effort protects Lakewood's unique asset of walkable neighborhood schools, which can be used to more directly market to potential families moving into Lakewood.
I want to express my strong support for the City's efforts to improve safety, accessibility, and sustainability through projects like the Bunts Road multi-use path and through policies such as Ordinances 16-2025 and 17-2025. It’s encouraging to see Lakewood taking steps toward a more equitable, multimodal transportation network that benefits all residents—whether walking, biking, driving, or using transit.
The Complete Streets policy and the creation of a dedicated advisory board will help ensure that these changes are thoughtful, community-informed, and enduring. I especially appreciate that these efforts prioritize both safety and environmental stewardship—reducing impervious surfaces, adding more trees in the long run, and building for the future rather than clinging to outdated systems.
Busy roads like Bunts are exactly where we need safe, well-designed infrastructure that reflects how people actually move through our city. I urge the City to continue clearly communicating the broader benefits of these projects and to stand firm in support of long-term improvements that serve the people of Lakewood.
I am looking forward to the progress being made in Lakewood to make it safer and more accessible for people to get around regardless of their mode of transportation. I am very excited for the Bunts Road project to move forward, as this is a huge step in prioritizing people and active transportation. I’m hoping the city will make a clear response to the opposition going on to “save the trees”, as the road repairs and sewer/water work will cause trees to be removed regardless of their path existing.
I am writing to express my gratitude to the City for moving forward with infrastructure projects, such as the multi-purpose path on Bunts Rd, that provide a safe route for all users regardless of their mode of transportation. The argument that this project should not go forward because Bunts is a busy thoroughfare through Lakewood does not make sense to me. It is precisely because Bunts is a main route that we need this type of infrastructure. Additionally, I appreciate that this project will include less overall impervious surfaces after the project is complete compared to what exists currently and that the city will be planting more trees than what currently exists. While these trees will take time to mature, we must think about our future rather than perpetuating systems from the past that are not environmentally sound or socially equitable.

I support the bunts project and look forward to the vision of an even further expanded network of protected bike paths.
