Lakewood Needs to Ensure a Safe and Livable Design for the Bunts Road Path
I respectfully ask the city to pause and reconsider the Bunts Road Multimodal Path and address serious safety and design concerns. The current 10-ft, 1.5-mile path runs in front of homes, crosses 95 driveways and 4 major intersections, creates 116 plus conflict points, and removes 134 mature trees, posing SIGNIFICANT hazards.
Over 40% of pedestrian and bike crashes occur at intersections and driveways, made worse by rising e-bike use.
* Reduce the path to 8-ft, residential scale and restore large trees all along street.
* Remove on-street parking where possible.
* Limit speed to 7–10 mph, prohibit motorized vehicles except wheelchairs, and require cyclists to yield to pedestrians and driveways.
* Install durable attractive surfaces to be used for path (residential feel) , shielded decorative lighting, and attractive, enforceable signage.
* Provide clear guidance on maintenance, driveway responsibilities, timelines, and liability.
Lakewood deserves a pathway that is safe, beautiful, and thoughtfully designed.
Please help ensure this project enhances our community (beautifying Lakewood) rather than putting it at risk.
