Congratulations on passing the budget! (at least I assume you have done that by the time you get to my comment). With the end of the budget season and the end of the year, I am here to ask that you begin your discussions on Ranch Choice Voting in Lakewood with the start of the new year so it can be brought to the voters of Lakewood in 2026. Likewise, I would ask that you consider asking candidates for the Ward 4 council seat what their thoughts are on RCV.

Happy Holidays! I look forward to seeing you all in the new year.

Urgent Safety and Liability Concerns – Bunts Road Shared-Use Path

The proposed Bunts Road Multi-Modal design presents foreseeable and preventable safety, environmental, and public-health risks that expose the City to potential liability if left unaddressed.

On-street parking along Bunts Road reduces sight distance, introduces fixed-object hazards, and significantly increases the risk of vehicle-to-pedestrian and vehicle-to-cyclist collisions, particularly at driveways and crossings. The lack of large canopy trees will worsen heat-island conditions, reduce air-pollution filtration, and eliminate a critical buffer for traffic noise on an already burdened residential corridor.

Allowing e-bikes and motorized scooters on a shared-use path creates unsafe speed differentials with pedestrians and traditional cyclists, substantially increasing crash severity and frequency, especially for children, elderly residents, and people with disabilities.

These risks must be mitigated, at minimum, by:
-Removing on-street parking along the corridor
-Prohibiting e-bikes and motorized scooters on the shared-use path
-Enforcing low, clearly posted speed limits
-Establishing and enforcing clear shared-path rules
    -Incorporating large-canopy street trees
-Constructing a durable concrete path suitable for long-term use

Failure to address these issues compromises the safety, health, and accessibility of Bunts Road for residents, school children, and elderly users, and represents a preventable risk on a residential street already experiencing cumulative impacts.
