I am writing to urge Lakewood City Council to approve Resolution 2026-17 recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility. Passing this resolution is a critical step in affirming that transgender people deserve to be respected, supported, and safe in our communities.

At a time when transgender individuals face increasing discrimination and violence across the country, it is essential for local communities to stand firmly in support of dignity and inclusion. Being transgender can involve significant social, emotional, and physical challenges. Our responsibility as community members and civic leaders is not to create additional barriers, but to ensure that all people have the opportunity to live openly and safely.

This resolution celebrates the profound contributions that the transgender community makes while highlighting its resilience. By adopting it, we send a strong message of solidarity, and we help build a more inclusive, just, and equitable future where everyone can live authentically without fear.

Thank you very much for your consideration of my comments.

    Sincerely,
    Christine McIntosh
