Regarding Short-Term Rental Nuisance at 14227 Delaware Ave.

Good evening. My name is McKenzie Beynon. I am a taxpayer and resident of Delaware Avenue, submitting this comment online as I cannot be here tonight. My partner is speaking in person — I am adding my voice separately because this affects me directly and deeply.

I chose Lakewood for exactly what it promised: safety, community, and neighbors who care. For five years, the short-term rental at 14227 Delaware Ave. has worked against everything that brought me here.

I have no issue with short-term rentals used responsibly. Traveling nurses, local hospital patients' families, and tourists passing through are welcome — but those guests are RARE. What I witness far more often is local license plates pulling up for parties, drug sales, drug use, and sex work — conduct that has no place in a family neighborhood. The lawn goes unmowed for weeks. Trash blows into our yard. Cigarette and marijuana smoke is a near-constant presence pouring out of the windows of the lower unit. Police are called almost weekly. In five years, there have been 63 confirmed calls to this single address — a documented drain on public safety resources that every Lakewood taxpayer, including me, funds.

The owner lives out of state and never has to see any of it. Last weekend there was a 4am fight outside. Human feces were left on the side of that house, steps from my driveway, on a hot day. As a woman, I no longer feel safe doing something as simple as yard work because of the people who constantly occupy that property.

This council has the ability to change that. Require registration. Require accountability for repeat nuisance properties. Give neighbors real recourse when an out-of-state owner profits while we absorb the harm. Lakewood is worth protecting. Please act.

I would like to address the concerns of an Airbnb in my neighborhood. I do not mind the duplex being used as a short term rental, I do however mind it being rented to local residents as a party house. I have lived in my house for 20 years and have never had issues of feeling unsafe, that is until the house across the street became an Airbnb. My family and I have seen drugs being sold, sex workers, and fights at the Airbnb. The neighborhood have had to call the police numerous times at all hours of the day and night. I believe that since the owner of the property lives out of town he doesn't care who rents the property as long as he makes money. I think he needs to be held accountable for the disruptions and the unsafe situations our neighborhood has been put in.

Opposition - Bunts Road Multi-Modal project- Opposition to asphalt driveway crossing under Lakewood Ordinance 903.07

Lakewood Codified Ordinance 903.07 prohibits asphalt sidewalk due to durability and safety concerns. At driveway crossings, the Bunts Road Multi-Modal path functions as a sidewalk within the public right of way and will be subject to repeated vehicular traffic.

Bunts Road residents respectfully request that concrete be used at driveway crossings to remain consistent with the intent of the ordinance, preserve the integrity of exiting concrete driveways, protect neighborhood property values, and avoid the recurring maintenance and patching commonly associated with asphalt under daily vehicular loading.

Residents respectfully request clear and consistent standards be established and publicly defined for this Multi-Modal project so that property owners fully understand the long-term material, maintenance, and right of way implications affecting their homes.

Good evening, I live across from an air b&b on delaware, as I have seen it be used for people for work, hospital visits, family, people driving thru, which is all great! But a lot of the time I see it be used for a party house (usually Cleveland license plates) or to sell drugs out of, we have been woken up at all hours from party’s or fights,we have children and I worry about their safety, the safety of myself and my neighbors! Lakewood is a nice place and I chose to live here to raise my kids in a nice safe area. This doesn’t make me feel safe! I ask that if they choose to use it as a short term rental they screen their clients better or have something put in order so that we can feel safe in our neighborhood Again.

I would like to express my support for my neighbors who have raised concerns regarding the property at 14227 Delaware Ave. While I am not opposed to short-term rentals in our community, there have been repeated issues involving excessive noise, disturbances, and fights occurring late into the night at this location. These incidents have negatively impacted the peace and safety of the neighborhood and have created an ongoing need for increased police presence. I respectfully ask that the property owner take greater responsibility in screening and monitoring renters to ensure that guests are respectful of the surrounding community. Our neighborhood deserves to feel safe and secure, and I stand with my neighbors in asking the City Council to address these concerns and encourage stronger accountability for this rental property.
