A 10 ft tar bike lane on Bunts Rd and the widening of the street is counterintuitive to Urban planning and removing 190 trees that have been here for 40-plus years will have a negative consequence for air quality and the environment.
As a taxpayer and homeowner on Bunts Rd, I am concerned about the already high traffic caused by the emergency vehicles and poor planning that went into the addition of the Get-Go 10 years ago. The stretch between Get-Go and the High School is not a place to add more congestion, adding a bike lane will further worsen the traffic situation that HAS NEVER been addressed. Cleveland does not allow parking on the street on 140th because of congestion and I advise Lakewood to do the same.
Residents can barely pull out into the street as it is with surrounding traffic, and you are adding a dangerous element to the situation with a bike path on a heavily traveled emergency street. Cars, pedestrians, and cyclists will be injured due to this proposed plan.
Property values will be negatively affected by this proposed project and the residents were not notified while it was in the planning phase.
Consequences of removing more trees:
• Affect the air quality in the surrounding area.
• Increase noise pollution for the residents in the area.
• Stronger gusts of wind up and down the street.
• Change in temperature in the summer months.
• Remove the safety barrier between the busy street and our homes.
• Considerably affects the ability of the street to absorb rainwater – 9% green space removed.
This is a dangerous path Lakewood is proposing. Think of the environment, the people, the taxpayers, and the safety of the community. It’s an environmental and safety disaster that has financial and legal implications for all parties involved and I urge the city to reconsider these plans for Bunts Rd and prioritize our safety and environment.
Please keep our community green, not blackened with tar!
